The Student Mobilization Centre is a network of YWAM staff serving alongside Youth With A Mission/University of the Nations campuses and other University communities around the world. Most of the SMC Staff are Associates whose primary role is with a YWAM operating location or campus ministry. Others Associates lead or assist with leadership of a Field Ministry Internship team. The SMC was commissioned internationally in Seoul, Korea in September 1997 as part of Youth With A Mission’s University of the Nations. The SMC International leadership is a team of YWAM staff commissioned by the UofN Board of Regents. These ten YWAM leaders include representatives and ministry centers in nine cities, and five countries on four continents. Network staff are working in 25 cities around the world.

John Henry has been with Youth With A Mission since 1985. John began in student mobilization when he was asked to lead Field Ministry Internships in 1989. Through FMI, 75 teams of students from over 100 colleges/universities have served field projects in over 30 countries. In 1995, John founded the Student Mobilization Centre, an interdisciplinary networking center of YWAM’s University of the Nations. As international centre leader, he serves on the international leadership team of university. John develops and oversees the vision and the international training programs which have equipped many of YWAM’s university missions staff now working in100 cities in 35 countries. He regularly reports the condition of the center to the YWAM/UofN Provost, International Leadership Team, Executive Committee, President, and Board of Regents through reports and one-on-one meetings.

John and Mary have been married for 23 years. They have three children, Justin, Nathan, and Rebecca. They live in Madison, WI.

REGIONAL LEADERS’ RESPONSIBILITIES

These leaders develop and oversee the vision of the regional Centre network and develop a keen awareness and sensitivity to both the physical and cultural environments. They develop and implement the vision; ensuring that it is practical and preparing people for practical ministry. Regional leaders recruit, select, train, develop and supervise regional staff members.

These SMC team members are liaisons with other YWAM/UofN ministries and schools. They develop and maintain a cooperative relationship between the Centre and all YWAM/UofN ministries; coordinate the Centre’s activities with other programs within YWAM/UofN regionally and internationally.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF ALL SMC INTERNATIONAL TEAM MEMBERS 

  • Adhere to the founding principles, mission and goals of YWAM/UofN and ensure that the Centre’s goals are in keeping with YWAM/UofN goals.
  • Become thoroughly familiar with the contents of the YWAM/UofN catalogue, which is also a legal document, and with the YWAM/UofN Reference Guides.
  • Actively participate in YWAM/UofN International Leadership Team meetings.
  • Recommend individuals to the YWAM/UofN Executive Committee for leadership appointments to the ICC; train and develop ICC members; convene and chair regular meetings of the International Centre Committee.
  • Attend the biannual International YWAM/UofN Workshop; plan content and provide leadership for the Centre focused training days
  • Develop and refine the foundational course/school of the Centre, especially the Outreach phase, including innovative teaching methodologies to provide inspiration and in depth understanding for students.
  • Develop curriculum: courses, seminars, short courses, symposia, plays, books, instructional materials, outreach content, integration and other educational programs which are related to Centre objectives and meet the needs of the local or regional communities.
  • Manage curriculum: work with school leaders on program evaluation and monitoring of seminars/courses; work with training administrators/managers to assure suitable facilities.
  • Regularly lead or teach in YWAM/UofN schools. Proclaim the Good News through the activities of the Centre and communicate achievements in ways that bring honor and glory to the Lord.
